Guild lose a nail biting exciting match vs Southam 2nd XV
A great game of flowing rugby took place between Southam 2nd XV and Trinity Guild on Saturday. Guild took the typical 25-30 minutes to get started against a good Southam outfit. Guild found themselves 14-0 down rather quickly into the game. An unfortunate injury forced Scrum Half James Askew off the pitch early meaning Guild had to reshuffle there back line. Guild started to get themselves in the game and the hard work paid off when Winger Dale Rafferty scored on his return to the squad after suffering a broken rib against Exiles at the start of the season, the try was converted by Captain Macauley Jones. Going in at half time Southam lead 14-7.
Guild started the second half very strong which saw Sean Curley finish a fantastic solo effort to score his first ever try for Trinity Guild after Macauley Jones conversion the scores were tied at 14-14. Southam were slightly favoured by the referee in the second and this resulted in them regaining the lead from a penalty. 17-14. Guild responded amazingly with Alex Clarke crossing for a try to make the score 17-19 Guild. again Macauley Jones Successfully converted and Guild led 21-17. A strong Southam fight back followed where they scored 2 tries in very quick succession and regained the lead at 29-21 with 10 minutes to play. Dale Rafferty crossed for a second time to bring Guild back in the game making the score Southam 29-26 Guild. Guild piled on the pressure the last 10 minutes and where the dominant force but a turn over just after a great opportunity for Guild to score and win the game allowed Southam to counter attack and go the length of the field to top off there victory. Scoring to make the score Southam 34-26 Guild.
Coaches Comments - Lads we know we took to long to get started today, and tackling let us down. we need to work hard at training to sort this out. Every lad on the field today showed how much fight they had and kept going until the end. that performance will go a long way into First team selection. Impressed today.
